Introduction

Burdock Root Extract is derived from the root of Arctium lappa L. (commonly known as burdock), a biennial plant widely cultivated in Europe, North America, and Asia. In traditional herbal systems, burdock root has been valued for its detoxifying, blood-purifying, and skin-supporting properties. Modern research shows that it contains inulin (a prebiotic fiber), arctiin, arctigenin, phenolic acids, and other bioactive compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential.

Commercial extraction typically uses dried burdock root slices or powder as raw material. The process involves water or water–ethanol extraction, followed by filtration, concentration, and spray drying to yield a fine powder. Depending on customer requirements, the extract can be standardized for inulin content (≥10%), arctiin (≥2%), or total polyphenols.

Physically, Burdock Root Extract is a light brown to brown fine powder, with a mild, earthy flavor and good solubility in water or ethanol. It is stable under dry, cool storage conditions. Due to its multifunctional properties, it is widely used in nutraceuticals, functional beverages, and skincare formulations.
