Introduction

Coleus Forskohlii Extract is derived from the root of Coleus forskohlii (also known as Plectranthus barbatus), a medicinal plant native to India and used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine to support heart health, respiratory wellness, and metabolic balance.

The primary active compound, Forskolin, is a diterpene known for its ability to stimulate adenylate cyclase and increase intracellular cyclic AMP (cAMP) levels. This mechanism is linked to improved fat metabolism, cardiovascular function, and respiratory support. Forskolin has been studied for its role in promoting weight management, supporting lean body mass, and enhancing overall vitality.

Commercial production involves harvesting and drying the roots, followed by solvent extraction and HPLC-standardized purification to achieve Forskolin concentrations of 10%–20%. The final product is a brown to brown-yellow fine powder, soluble in ethanol and slightly soluble in water, stable under proper storage, and widely used in nutraceuticals, functional foods, and weight management formulations.
