Cranberry Extract
Introduction
Cranberry Extract is derived from the ripe fruit of Vaccinium macrocarpon, a small red berry native to North America and widely recognized for its role in supporting urinary tract health. Cranberries are rich in proanthocyanidins (PACs), flavonoid compounds that help prevent the adhesion of certain bacteria (such as E. coli) to the urinary tract lining.
In addition to PACs, cranberry extract contains anthocyanins, organic acids, vitamin C, and other polyphenols, which contribute to antioxidant protection, immune support, and cardiovascular wellness.
Commercial production involves harvesting fresh cranberries, cleaning and drying them, followed by water–ethanol extraction to preserve the active compounds. The extract is concentrated and spray-dried into a fine red to dark red powder, standardized to PACs ≥5%–25% depending on application needs.
