Description

Echinacea Extract is obtained from the aerial parts and roots of Echinacea species, primarily Echinacea purpurea and Echinacea angustifolia. Native to North America, echinacea has a long tradition of use among Native American tribes for treating infections, wounds, and general immune support. Today, it is one of the most widely used herbal remedies for promoting immune health worldwide.

The extract is standardized to polyphenols (≥4%–10%) and cichoric acid (≥1%–4%), which are recognized as the main active compounds responsible for its immunomodulatory and antioxidant properties. Echinacea polysaccharides, alkamides, and caffeic acid derivatives further contribute to its ability to support the body’s natural defenses, reduce oxidative stress, and promote respiratory wellness.

Commercial production involves drying and milling of echinacea roots and aerial parts, followed by aqueous–ethanolic extraction and spray-drying. The resulting fine yellow-brown powder is stable under proper storage, with solubility in ethanol and partial solubility in water. Echinacea Extract is widely used in immune support supplements, herbal syrups, lozenges, and functional wellness formulations.
