Garcinia Cambogia Extract
Introduction
Garcinia Cambogia Extract is derived from the rind of the small, pumpkin-shaped fruit of Garcinia cambogia, native to Southeast Asia and India. It has been used in traditional cuisines as a souring agent and in Ayurvedic medicine for digestive support and weight management.
The primary active compound is hydroxycitric acid (HCA), which has been studied for its potential to inhibit fat synthesis, reduce appetite, and support weight management. HCA is believed to block ATP-citrate lyase, an enzyme involved in converting carbohydrates into fat, while also increasing serotonin levels, which may help reduce emotional eating.
Commercial production involves drying and grinding the fruit rind, followed by water or water–ethanol extraction to concentrate HCA. The extract is then spray-dried into a fine off-white to light brown powder, standardized to HCA ≥50%–60% by HPLC for consistent potency.
