Ginkgo Biloba Extract
Introduction
Ginkgo Biloba Extract is derived from the dried green leaves of the Ginkgo biloba tree, one of the oldest living tree species on Earth. This botanical extract is standardized for its unique profile of flavone glycosides and terpene lactones—including ginkgolides A, B, C and bilobalide—which are responsible for its diverse bioactive properties.
The extract is commonly produced through water–ethanol extraction of the cleaned, dried leaves, followed by purification and concentration steps to achieve standardized specifications such as 24% flavone glycosides and 6% terpene lactones. Additional processing ensures low levels of ginkgolic acids (≤5 ppm), which are potentially allergenic compounds.
Physically, Ginkgo Biloba Extract is a brown to yellow-brown fine powder, with a mild herbal taste and good solubility in water–ethanol mixtures. It is stable under dry, cool storage and is widely used in nutraceuticals, functional foods, and traditional herbal formulas. With global consumer recognition and a strong scientific background, it remains one of the top-selling herbal extracts for brain health and circulation support.
