Description

Kava Extract is derived from the roots of Piper methysticum, a plant native to the South Pacific islands where it has been traditionally consumed as a ceremonial and social beverage for centuries. Known locally as “Kava-Kava,” it has been used to promote relaxation, reduce anxiety, and support social bonding.

The extract is standardized to kavalactones (≥30%–70%), the major bioactive compounds responsible for its calming, anxiolytic, and muscle-relaxing properties. Kavalactones are known to influence GABAergic activity in the central nervous system, supporting relaxation, reducing occasional stress, and promoting restful sleep without dependence. Commercial production involves careful washing, drying, and milling of mature kava roots, followed by ethanol or CO₂ extraction and concentration. The resulting fine yellow-brown powder is stable under proper storage, soluble in ethanol, and partially soluble in water.
